Uniforms and Handbook

Class A (Field) Uniform

The Class A/Field uniform is the official, formal uniform worn by all Boy Scouts and adult leaders at regular meetings and ceremonies. The Class A/Field uniform consists of:

  • tan BSA shirt (with appropriate patches and emblems),

  • blue Troop 420 neckerchief,

  • neckerchief tie slide,

  • khaki pants/shorts,

  • scout belt,

  • socks and

  • closed toe shoes.

NO jeans, basketball shorts or open toe shoes are allowed at any Troop meeting, event or activity unless specifically authorized.

The blue Troop neckerchief and troop numerals are purchased directly from the troop.  All remaining uniform items (excluding shoes) are available at the Council Trading Post or online at ScoutStuff.org.  Additional information about the Class A/Field uniform can be found in the Boy Scout Handbook and online at Scouting.org.

Class B (Activity) Uniform

The Class B/Acitivity uniform is more casual and is worn for all outdoor activities and during the summer months.  It is also a required item for summer camp for both youth and adults. The Class B/Activity uniform consists of:

  • A BSA or Troop t-shirt (in lieu of the tan scout shirt and neckerchief),

  • All items from the Class A list from the waist down.

Handbook

Each Scout is required to purchase and maintain a Boy Scout Handbook.  The Handbook provides useful information about:

  • the Boy Scout program,

  • skills each scout is expected to master and

  • is used to document the Scout's completion of rank advancements.

It is the Scout's responsibility to reference the handbook for information and advancement requirements.  The Scout is also responsible for obtaining signatures as requirements are completed and to periodically turn the book into the Advancement Chair.

An electronic copy of all rank advancement is maintained by the Advancement Chair within the BSA database program "Scoutbook".  Parents/guardians are given access to view their scouts' record and to invite their scout to have access as well.
