Welcome to Troop 420 of the Las Vegas Scouts, BSA, Black Mountain District.  We are chartered by Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Henderson, NV which is where most of our meetings are held on Monday nights.  We are a non-denominational troop of boys aged 11-18 with varied interests and abilities. If you enjoy hiking in the mountains, canoeing on the Colorado River, camping on the beach or just having fun with fellow scouts you have come to the right place and we invite you to read on to learn more about us.

Troop 420 began in April 1988 led by Scoutmaster Allen Stiped.  Bodil Bearden is our current Scoutmaster with several parents supporting him as Assistant Scoutmasters.  The "business" of the Troop is managed by the Troop Committee which is currently led by Heather Mills.  The Committee consists of numerous adult/parent members who contribute their time and talents to ensure the program planned by the Scouts (with the guidance of the Scoutmaster and his assistants) is made available.

Boy Scouts and Troop 420 Strive To:
  • Offer boys responsible fun and adventure;

  • Instill lifetime values and develop in them ethical character as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law;

  • Train each Scout in citizenship, service, and leadership;

  • Serve America's communities and families with its quality, values-based program.

As A Boy Scout in Troop 420, Your Son Should Be Striving To:
  • Gain an understanding of “citizenship” and how it affects him and his community (Scout Oath). Accept and understand his responsibility to:

    • God,

    • Country,

    • People around him and

    • As an individual.

  • Stay physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight (Scout Oath).

  • Build a character such that he may succeed in relationships in business, home, church and community (Scout Law).

As a Parent/Guardian, You Should:
  • Be involved - The vast majority of boys that remain in Scouting beyond 14 are those that have actively involved parents.

  • Promote the “process” of Scouting - The goal of the scouts is not in achieving the destination, but in making the journey successful.

    • Not the food on the campout, but that the boys cooked it.

    • Not a sharp-looking flag ceremony, but that the boys put it together.

    • Not who would make the best patrol leader, but that the boys elect one.

    • Not that Johnny learns first aid, but that Billy teaches him.

    • Not that we cover everything on the meeting agenda, but that the senior patrol leader is in charge.

    • Not that he earn every merit badge as fast a possible but that he learn (Advancing rank and earning merit badges is not the goal of the Boy Scout program.  Scouts should be encouraged to pursue them because they are one vehicle to achieving the Mission and Vision.).
